Giving Online to the Lucas Ransom Memorial Scholarship

Lucas Ransom, a 19-year old UC Santa Barbara junior majoring in Chemical Engineering, died tragically as a result of a shark attack on Friday, October 22, 2010, while body boarding off Vandenberg Air Force Base.  In a Today Show interview, his mother said she was "blessed" to have Lucas as her son, and regrets that he did not live long enough to realize his dreams of graduating from UC Santa Barbara next year and making a difference in other people's lives.

Toward those goals, the family is establishing a scholarship fund in Lucas's name to support need-based students in the Chemical Sciences at UC Santa Barbara.  Those interested in honoring Lucas's memory can contribute to this fund and help further his aspirations by supporting future students.

Lucas attended Perris High School in Riverside County, CA, where he was a successful competitive swimmer and water polo player.  In 2007, he was highly praised for his heroic actions saving a boy from drowning while working as a lifeguard.

Thank you for contributing to this memorial fund.  If you have any questions about the fund or memorializing Lucas, please contact Chris Pizzinat at 805-893-5126 or chris.pizzinat@ia.ucsb.edu.
